SUSTAINABILITY

Environmental responsibility has long been a large part of Simes philosophy, and we are proud to be one for the first South Island real estate companies that take responsibility for our company’s footprint.

Our sustainability initiatives have not only reduced risk, but have also achieved great results for the company and the earth.

  • Since 2006 we have outsourced document management to more efficient storage facilities this have freed up office space and increased productivity and operational efficiencies.
  • We are committed to reducing energy consumption by decreasing amount of office equipment required, we removed all outdated CRT monitors and only allow energy efficient flat screen LCD’s. We removed 23 under utilised printers with toxic toners. Our technology and copier suppliers implement strong sustainability initiatives.
  • Further energy savings include staff turning off all office lights and office equipment at night.
  • Every staff member has a recycle box under their desk resulting in 90% of all paper waste being recycled rather than ending up in landfill. All cardboard is 100% recycled, as is plastic and glass bottles.
  • Our property management team are qualified Green Building Specialists.
  • Our printed marketing material is produced by the South Islands only printer to have Forest Steward Council (FSC) certification.
  • We offer clients the option of electronic statements and invoices in an effort to reduce paper consumption. We have also initiated electronic valuations for institutions requiring the core document.
  • In conjunction with Calder Stewart Construction we are constructing our new head office with a mandate to reduce direct CO² emissions and waste, and integrate green building technologies. We will be occupying the premises in 2009 and it will be carbon neutral!
  • Over the years we have created some fantastic partnerships with companies of a like mind that contribute to sustainability within the building industry. We are proud to be associated with Natural Element Homes and their sustainable building practices.
